Improv For Young People with Allen Schmeltz

Ages: 11-18
Tuition: $70 a month
When: Fridays, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

In the Improv class, students practice the skills of acting and improvisation through theatre games and exercises all while having fun in a safe, learning environment. The class is ongoing, and students may join at any time! (Limit of 15 students per class.)

Private Acting Lessons with Allen Schmeltz

Ages: All ages
Tuition: $40 for a 30 minute lesson
When: Various times available, call/email for information and scheduling.

Do you have a theatre or college audition coming up? Get professional coaching from Allen Schmeltz to get an edge on those auditions! Audition coaching is $80 for a one-hour session. Video recording of your audition is also available at an additional cost.

Oil Painting with Mike Jimena

Ages: 10-Adult
Tuition: $100 for 3 Sessions. Sessions do not have to be consecutive.
When: Tuesdays, 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM. You may came at any point within this timeframe to complete a 90 minute painting session. 
Where: Sutter Street Annex Rehearsal Studio
This class is taught in a self-paced studio setting with one-on-one style instruction. Each student learns, progresses, and develops at his or her own pace. Student work will be included in periodic Art Shows and receptions. The class is ongoing and may be started at any time. Classes do not need to be consecutive. All materials are included.

Meet Our Instructors

Instructor: Allen Schmeltz

Allen Schmeltz, Improv For Young People – Allen is an award-winning director, having directed over 80 productions, and was the founder and artistic director of the award-winning Garbeau’s Acorn & Oak Theatre for young people. For 17 years he has been an artistic associate, director, and teacher at Sutter Street Theatre. Allen has been teaching for over 20 years, including an ongoing improv workshop. His productions have received numerous awards and critical acclaim.

Instructor: Christine Irish

Christine Irish, Musical Theatre – Christine is a graduate of Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts. She has performed in many theatrical performances including the Regional Theatre debut of Les Misérables as Eponine. Christine teaches private singing lessons and was the Director of El Dorado Dance Academy’s musical theatre performing group “Ovation” for 6 years. Christine loves to pass on her knowledge to anyone who has the drive and motivation to learn.

 

Instructor: Dian Hoel

 

Dian Hoel, Tap Dance – Dian has performed professionally for many years. Her credits include Sacramento’s Music Circus, Woodminster Summer Stock Theatre, national and international touring companies, television (including America’s Most Wanted), commercial and voice over work. She has choreographed many musical productions over the years, at Sutter Street Theatre and other venues. She currently teaches Tap for Musical Theatre at Sutter Street Theatre.

 

 

Instructor: Jeannie Larson

Jeannie Larson, Musical Theatre Dance – Jeannie has been involved in the Performing Arts for more than 3 decades. She studied drama, dance and singing at USC, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Drama. She started her performance career after graduating in 1987, including a year in Japan and several years in New York and Las Vegas. She has performed in over 50 musicals and dance productions, including her favorite professional role as Bombalurina in the National Touring Company of Cats, and the 2021-22 season with the Hardwood Classics Dance Team for the NBA Golden State Warriors. For the past 15 years, she has been teaching dance, music and theater arts in Placer County, including directing and choreographing childrens theater productions. She founded Stars and Steps Dance and Music Company, starting several local drama clubs at elementary and middle schools, and also worked with the local theatre group Take Note Troupe (TNT) for high school level students. She is thrilled to share her passion and joy for theatre and dance and hopes to inspire a resilient, compassionate, kind, thoughtful and courageous students.

 

Instructor: Lindy Mallonee

 

Linda “Lindy” Mallonee, Intro To Theatre: Rising Stars & Bright Stars – Lindy holds a degree in Early Childhood Education from San Jose State and Santa Clara University and has accumulated many years of experience working with children. As the Director of Children’s Program at Santa Clara University, she was in charge of all the annual holiday plays and productions. She specializes in acting, puppetry, children’s entertainment, character voices, storytelling and always… singing! She has performed on stages across the Bay Area and Sacramento regions.

 

 

Instructor: Mike Jimena

 

Mike Jimena, Oil Painting – Mike is the founder of Mikon Productions, which designs and creates multiple exhibits throughout California and LAs Vegas, NV. Notable projects include the Granny Goose Stage for Fairytale Towne, Mike’s Golden Spike Saloon for the Folsom Rodeo and his California State Fair Counties Exhibits, for which he has received over 30 Gold Ribbons and 10 special awards. He was awarded R.O.P Teacher of the Year and the Wilkerson Fellowship from the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.
